LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas is beginning the search for a new football coach after firing Bobby Petrino for lying to officials about his recent motorcycle accident, among other things. How will this affect recruiting?
Razorbacks' athletic director Jeff Long says Petrino knowingly misled him, the school and the public when he said he was alone at the time of the crash. It turns out that 51-year-old Petrino was riding with football department staffer Jessica Dorrell. He later admitted that he'd had an inappropriate relationship with the 25-year-old woman who he recommended for the job.
Petrino finishes with a 34-17 record in four seasons. He went 21-5 over his final two, leading Arkansas to a No. 5 final ranking last season and a Cotton Bowl win over Kansas State.
Petrino issued a statement apologizing for what he calls "selfish decisions" that cost him his job.
