MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) - Southern Arkansas University has a new director of athletics.
University President David Rankin announced Tuesday that interim director Steve Browning will take over the position permanently on July 1. Browning also will continue to serve as head baseball coach.
Browning was named head baseball coach in June 2010. He led Southern Arkansas to the Gulf South Conference championship during their final season in the league in 2011. In 2012, the Muleriders won the Great American Conference title and the inaugural GAC baseball tournament.
Central Missouri eliminated Southern Arkansas in the NCAA Division II South Central region baseball tournament.
Browning has a bachelor's degree in health, kinesiology and recreation from Southern Arkansas and has masters of education degrees from the university in kinesiology, education administration and supervision and special education.
