Shooting for the stars with 'Hoop Dreams'

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 23, 2012) - One Thumbs Up is hosting a charity basketball game today, June 23 for youth and adults. But the fun doesn't stop there as the group teams up with Hoop Dreams of Arkansas to host a celebrity camp next week.

The 2nd annual Hoop Dreams Youth Basketball Camp will be held June 25-29 at Arkansas School for the Deaf. Hoop Dreams Youth Basketball Camp will cater to youth ages 8-17 and will be coached by former Little Rock Central High players and Arkansas' top, professional International Basketball Players.

And today, the 2nd annual Arkansas Greek Charity Basketball Game will be held att Philander Smith College.  Tipoff is at 4:00 p.m.

Hoop Dreams was created to assist youth with potential but lack basic fundamentals. The vision of Hoop Dreams is to give youth the skills and confidence needed to excel in the game of basketball while building character and life skills.  It is the goal of Hoop Dreams to also promote and encourage youth to engage in extracurricular activities such as basketball.

Camp coaches for Hoop Dreams Youth Basketball Camp include members of the 1999 Little Rock Central High Championship Team.  Players scheduled to attend are Mark Green, Jarrett Hart, and Andre Amos.  Other invited coaches include Kim Adams, Ryan Holmes, Raymond Shaw, and Joe Gregory.  Special guest speakers for Hoop Dreams Youth Basketball Camp include former Syracuse Women's Basketball Player Taneshia (Welch) Brown and former NBA player Stromile Swift.

Proceeds for Hoop Dreams Youth Basketball Camp will benefit Hoop Dreams Academy.  Hoop Dreams Academy is a training program for student athletes.  The academy is designed to help student athletes maximize their full potential, on and off the court.  In addition to physical training, Hoop Dreams Academy offers student athletes training in media relations, team building, dress for success, public relations and branding, as well as community involvement.
