Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals reinstated shortstop Ian Desmond from the 15-day disabled list Friday.

Desmond, who has been sidelined since July 21 with a left oblique strain, is batting .286 with a career-high 17 home runs and 53 RBI through 89 games this year.

Washington designated infielder Cesar Izturis for assignment to make room on the roster.

Izturis went 2-for-4 with a double in five games for Washington this season.
