MONTICELLO, Ark. (AP) - A new traveling trophy will be awarded to the winner of this fall's matchup between the Arkansas-Monticello and Southern Arkansas football teams.
The schools announced plans this week for the Battle of the Timberlands, which will take place Sept. 29 in Monticello. The Boll Weevils call the matchup with the Muleriders the school's oldest and most storied rivalry.
Southern Arkansas holds the all-time series advantage at 51-35 with one tie. Last year, the Muleriders won 53-28 in Magnolia.
Arkansas-Monticello Chancellor Jack Lassiter says a custom trophy was designed for the matchup this year.
