San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Katz threw for 190 yards and two
touchdowns on 15-of-29 passing while adding three more scores on the ground to
propel the San Diego State Aztecs to a 52-14 rout of the Hawaii Warriors in
Mountain West Conference action at Qualcomm Stadium.
Adam Muema gained a team-high 77 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries as San
Diego State (3-3, 1-1 MWC) ended its two-game losing slide. He also caught a
31-yard touchdown pass in the victory. Katz had 57 rushing yards and an average
of 5.7 yards per carry.
Sean Schroeder completed 14-of-28 attempts for 112 yards and a touchdown while
under center for Hawaii (1-4, 0-2), which lost its third game in a row. Will
Gregory carried the ball 81 times on his way to a game-high 81 yards and scored
a touchdown.
The Aztecs took an early 14-0 lead behind a pair of first quarter touchdowns.
Katz rushed 27 yards for a touchdown to put his team on the board. Adam Muema
punched it in from a yard out with 5:50 left in the opening period.
Katz broke away for a 34-yard touchdown run with 12:50 left in the second frame
to put SDSU up, 21-0.
Hawaii finally produced some points as Schroeder found Trevor Davis in the end
zone for a one-yard touchdown pass with just over eight minutes left in the
opening half.
The Aztecs answered right back with a six-play, 72-yard drive which was
concluded with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Katz to Brice Butler. Katz rushed
for another touchdown just before halftime to give SDSU a 35-7 advantage
heading into the intermission.
The Warriors scored their final touchdown of the game with 11:10 left in the
third quarter as Gregory trotted three yards across the goal line.
A 35-yard field goal courtesy of Chance Marden gave the Aztecs a 38-14
advantage as the game entered its final quarter.
Muema caught a touchdown pass and Chase Price rushed two yards for a score in
the fourth frame to bury the Warriors even deeper.
SDSU dominated, gaining 412 offensive yards while limiting Hawaii to just 173
yards.
