Muleriders' Brown earns football All-America honor

    LEESBURG, Va. (SAU) - Southern Arkansas senior fullback Carlos Brown (Pittsburg, Texas) has been named to the 2012 Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Division II football All-America team. Brown was named to the network's second team.

    A four-year letterman for the Muleriders, Brown rushed for 419 yards and five touchdowns this season, averaging 5.7 yards on 73 carries. The senior was the third leading receiver on the team, catching 30 passes for 354 yards and four touchdowns.

    Brown's top rushing performance of the season came in SAU's 44-28 win at Ouachita Baptist November 3, gaining 156 yards and scoring two touchdowns on 24 carries. He had 94 yards and one touchdown on 20 totes in a 44-36 loss to No. 8 Henderson State the week prior.

    Brown caught four passes for 105 yards in a 19-0 shutout win at East Central October 13, before catching two touchdown passes the next week in Southern Arkansas' 47-14 blowout homecoming win over Southern Nazarene (Okla.).

    He carried the ball seven times for 28 yards and a touchdown and caught six passes for 71 yards in the Muleriders' 36-35 loss to McMurry last weekend in the Heart of Texas Bowl.

    Brown was one of eight members from the Great American Conference recognized on the BSN All-America team, including first team selections in Henderson State sophomore quarterback Kevin Rodgers and Harding sophomore fullback Romo Westbrook.

    Henderson State sophomore Israel Valentin joined Brown on the second team as a kick returner. Named to the third team were Henderson State senior linebacker Maxie Graham and Harding sophomore kicker John Gay. East Central (Okla.) senior linebacker Jason Catchings and Southwestern Oklahoma State senior kicker Colton Rainey received honorable mention.
