RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (ATU) - Arkansas Tech senior quarterback Tanner Marsh has been selected by the Little Rock Touchdown Club as Tech's Player of the Year for the 2012 season.
Marsh and 11 players from the other Arkansas football playing schools will be honored by the Touchdown Club at its annual banquet Friday, Feb. 1 at the Embassy Suites in Little Rock. This year's banquet will feature a buffet lunch, which will be served from 11-11:50 a.m. and the program will run from 11:50 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for non-members and $40 for VIP seating. Each award winner from the college and high school ranks will be honored with a video presentation and receive a plaque from the Touchdown Club.
In addition to honoring the Player of the Year from Arkansas' 11 football playing colleges and universities, a most valuable player and coach are selected from each of the six high school football classifications. The club also recognizes, through a membership vote, the top players and coach in the SEC, the national player of the year, and the winner of the Paul Eells Award.
In addition to Marsh, other Players of the Year from the Arkansas schools are Jimmy Jean (Arkansas Baptist), Jamal Nixon (Arkansas-Monticello), Wynrick Smothers (Central Arkansas), Kelvin Martin (Harding), Maxie Graham and Kevin Rodgers (Henderson State), Brett Reece (Ouachita Baptist), Don Unamba (Southern Arkansas), Ben Anderson (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), Ryan Aplin (Arkansas State), and Tyler Wilson (Arkansas).
Marsh earned his selection after becoming just the second quarterback in Arkansas Tech history to throw for over 400 yards in a game, and ranking third in the Great American Conference in passing yards (2875) and total offense (301.5 yards per game), racking up the third-most passing yards in school history, the second-best completion percentage in school history (60.5), the fifth-most touchdowns (19) in school history, and second-most completions (238) in school history (all single-season marks).
