RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (ATU) - On the heels of a 31-point performance, including a game-winning shot with less than two seconds remaining at Henderson State, Arkansas Tech senior Willie Kirkland has been named Great American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
He becomes the third Wonder Boys player to win Player of the Week honors this season. Bobby Hatchett (12/17) and Will Paul (1/7) are the previous winners. Kirkland earned the GAC weekly award after pushing the Wonder Boys into sole possession of first place. He scored 31 points on 12-for-20 shooting at Henderson State. He made the game winner with less than two seconds remaining. He connected on 4-of-7 from the 3-point arc and added 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.
The Wonder Boys return to action on Thursday, Feb. 21, hosting Arkansas-Monticello at Tucker Coliseum. A 7:30 p.m. tip is scheduled.
