Gomez picks up GAC player of week honors

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (ATU) -- After hitting five home runs in her last five at bats and knocking in 12 RBIs in her last five games, Arkansas Tech sophomore Siarra Gomez earned her first Great American Conference Player of the Week award, announced by the league office Monday.
She becomes the first Golden Suns softball player earn the award this year in just the third week of the season.
Gomez set the school record for most home runs in a game with three against Texas A&M-International (2/16) and tied the NCAA record for most home runs in consecutive at-bats with five which was set by C.W. Post's Christie Softy in 2009.
At the Holiday Inn at the Falls Festival last weekend, Gomez hit six home runs in 13 at-bats. She helped the Golden Suns to a 3-2 record for the tournament.
Gomez added another weekly accolade to her collection, as the Golden Suns slugger was tabbed Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week, the NFCA announced Wednesday.
The Golden Suns will return to action Saturday, February 23rd to take on Southern Arkansas in a double-header in Magnolia, Arkansas. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
