Wonder Boys split series against Southern Arkansas

    RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (ATU) - Senior Thomas Biocic went 3-for-7 with three hits and three RBI, while sophomore Kenny Spencer and junior Zac Johnson went 2-for-3 in game one as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (24-10, 11-4 GAC) split a pair of games with the Southern Arkansas Muleriders (21-10, 14-4 GAC) falling 11-3 in game one and winning 2-0 in game two on Sunday afternoon at Tech Field.

    In game one, the Muleriders scored the first run of the game off of an RBI double from Southern Arkansas' Capshaw. They scored one more before the end of the inning. In the bottom of the second, the Wonder Boys scored one. Biocic tripled down the left field line. Zac Johnson hit an RBI single to score Biocic.

    The Muleriders added back-to-back one-inning runs in the third and the fourth, while the Wonder Boys' Zac Johnson ran home to score one run in the bottom of the fifth. Southern Arkansas responded with two runs in the sixth followed by five more throughout the rest of the game. The Wonder Boys ended the game with a home run from Biocic.

    Junior Danny Parker suffered the loss for the Wonder Boys after throwing four strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work.

    In the nightcap, the two teams were scoreless until the bottom of the third. Junior Cole Fergus tripled to right field. Biocic slammed a homer over right center to score two runs. Those two runs would be the only runs scored the entire game as Arkansas Tech took game two 2-0.

    Junior Jake Bell took the win after pitching 6.2 innings of work and throwing six strikeouts.

    The Wonder Boys will travel to Weatherford, Okla. on Friday, March 29 to play against Southwestern Oklahoma at noon. A doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.

    The Muleriders travel to Marshall, TX on Tuesday, March 26 for a double-header against Wiley College. First pitch in game one is expected to start at 2 p.m. Game two will begin at 5 p.m.
