Harding women's tennis clinches 3rd at GAC tourney

    DURANT, Okla. (HARDING) - The Harding women's tennis team clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Great American Conference Tournament with a 6-3 road conference victory over Southeastern Oklahoma on Monday.

    Both teams entered the match 2-3 in conference, but with the victory Harding captured the No. 3 seed and will meet No. 6 seed Henderson State on Friday at the conference tournament in Bentonville, Ark.
    Harding won two of the three doubles matches against Southeastern Oklahoma. The No. 1 doubles team of Benyapa Phumtip and Ali Rowden improved to 9-4 this season with an 8-6 victory over Andreea Georgescu and Sabina Mardarenko.

    The Lady Bisons' No. 3 doubles team of Maria Moreno and Katie Huff won their third straight with an 8-3 victory over Marina Dias and Elba Haugen.

    Harding captured four of the six singles matches. Phumtip defeated Mardarenko 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 to improve to 9-6 in singles. Rowden won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 over Georgescu for her 11th singles victory this season. Chelsea Lanier won her fourth straight with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3, and Kaleigh Wagner won her sixth straight 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6. Wagner is the only Lady Bison to win all six of her conference matches this season.
