RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (UAM) - University of Arkansas at Monticello sophomore Katie Slaughter has been named the Great American Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Slaughter went 2-1 over the past week, both wins coming in UAM's four-game Great American Conference sweep over Southern Arkansas this past weekend at home.
After suffering a loss to Delta State during the team's midweek double header, Slaughter came back strong with a complete-game victory over SAU in the second game of the series. UAM won 9-1 in six innings. She gave up only four hits, struck out three and did not allow a walk. The only run scored by SAU was a solo homerun. She limited SAU to just one more scoring opportunity throughout the remainder of the game.
The Austin, Texas native saved her best performance of the week for the last. In the series finale against SAU, Slaughter tossed a complete-game shutout (1-0), and only allowed one hit with four strikeouts and one walk in less than an hour. She only faced two batters over the minimum, giving up a walk in the first inning and a two-out single in the sixth. All other innings went in order.
Slaughter improved to 13-7 overall this year with her weekly performance. She and her teammates return to action and close out the regular season this weekend in Weatherford, Okla. for a four-game GAC series against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
