Angles, UCA runner-up at Southland Championship

    MCKINNEY, Texas (UCA) --  Sophomore Pep Angles shot a 1-over 73 on Wednesday and finished second at the 2013 Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship played at the Pete Dye Signature Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.

    UCA finished second overall to Southeastern Louisiana. The Bears had rounds of 299-308-299 to finish at 906. SLU shot 301-304-288_893.

    Angles, from Barcelona, Spain, was tied for first with teammate James Newton after two rounds, and finished at 76-73-73_222, two strokes behind Southeastern's Rhys West (73-76-71_220).

    UCA senior Austen Moix closed out his career by tying for eighth (74-80-75_229), while junior Richard Farmer tied for 27th (86-76-74_236). Newton, a freshman, struggled on Wednesday and finished tied for 25th (70-79-89_238). Freshman Jacob Oaks finished strong and tied for 28th (79-85-77_241).

    Lamar finished third (919), followed by Stephen F. Austin (932), Sam Houston State (940), Oral Roberts (943), Nicholls State (948) and McNeese State (952).
