ENID, Okla. (GAC) - Harding won its second-straight elimination game, defeating third-seeded Arkansas Tech, 14-8, to advance to Championship Tuesday in Monday's second 2013 Great American Conference Baseball Tournament contest from David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
The Bisons (29-21) scored four times in the third inning, only to see the Wonder Boys (32-21) match with four of their own in their half of the third inning. Harding scored four times again in the fifth inning. Jeremy Bohnett smashed a three-run home run to left as part of the outburst.
After Harding added a pair of runs in its lead in the top of the sixth, Arkansas Tech batted around and pulled to within 10-8 before the Bisons added four runs over the final three innings to claim the victory and knock out their second top-three seed in as many days. On Sunday, the Bisons ended the GAC Championship run of Southwestern Oklahoma State in a 5-4 victory.
Josh Spears pitched the final 3.1 innings for Harding and allowed only two hits to earn his seventh save of the season. Cameron Walker earned the win while Ethan Crocker took the loss.
Gabe Fyock and Kyle Atkins each totaled four hits in the contest. Bohnett and Fyock bot drove home four runs. The Bisons collected 19 hits, their most in a game since totaling their season high, 24, against Southern Arkansas on March 16.
The Bisons will face Arkansas-Monticello at noon on Tuesday regardless of how the Boll Weevils fare in Monday's finale against Southern Arkansas. If the Boll Weevils win, the Bisons must beat UAM twice to claim the title. If the Muleriders win, the Bisons and Boll Weevils will play for the right to face SAU in the title game at 3:30 p.m.
