HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - After American flags were trashed at a Hot Springs cemetery, forty people showed up to place American flags on veterans' graves on Flag Day.

Someone went through Oak Grove Cemetery last week, throwing flowers and flags that were placed on the graves in the trash. It seems the mementos were thrown away by mowers who landscape the area.

THV 11 spoke with an Oak Grove Cemetery board member who said this was the result of a misunderstanding between the board and the mowers hired to keep up the cemetery. Board members said they regret the mistake, but are thankful the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) helped replace the flags with new ones.

To restore the memorials to the area, VFW members and volunteers spent Friday placing more than 90 flags on the gravestones.
