INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Univ. of Ark.) - University of Arkansas sophomore All-American Lauren Jordan clocked a 9:06.82 in the 800-meter freestyle, kick starting Arkansas' participation in the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championship in Indianapolis, Ind.
Jordan sat in 24th place after the first three heats, with the final heat competing in the evening finals. Jordan clocked a 4:27.42 at the halfway point to pace herself to a 9:06.82. Jordan will return to the pool in the 200-meter backstroke preliminaries tomorrow and the 1500-meter freestyle on Saturday. Jordan earned All-America honors in the 1650-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championship with a ninth-place finish.
Sophomore Nikki Daniels will represent the Razorbacks on Thursday in the 50-meter breast and Friday in the 100-meter breast. The sophomore earned All-America status with a head-turning performance at the NCAA Championship, where she clocked a 59.18 to finish fourth nationally.
Daniels and Jordan are looking to earn spots on the World Championship team, which will be announced at the close of competition on Saturday. The 15th FINA World Championships will take place in Barcelona, Spain, July 19-August 4, 2013. In order to qualify for the USA team for the 2013 FINA World Championships, swimmers must be one of the top two finishers in each of the Olympic events other than the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle.
