BEEBE, Ark. (KTHV) - Prayers and thoughts are pouring in right now for a beloved, former Beebe football coach and teacher who was hospitalized after a serious farming accident.

The farming accident happened about a week-and-a-half ago on the family's farm and Bill Pruitt remains at UAMS.

THV 11 talked to Pruitt's brother, Bob Pruitt, by phone on Monday night. He said that Pruitt is in serious condition but stable. He said that his brother was in the process of unhooking a wagon from a tractor, and that wagon suddenly came at him and pinned him up against a tire. We're told that Pruitt was able to call 911 for help.

Right now in Beebe, memories shine on former football coach Bill Pruitt, who is in everyone's thoughts and prayers.

"He's a good fella, and all we hope is for the best for him," Athletic Director Jerry Jordan said.

On the field, Athletic Director Jerry Jordan described Pruitt as a "player's coach" during his 37-and-a-half years with the Badgers.

"They loved him. That's just as simple as I can say it," Jordan said.

Pruitt made a close bond with his players that carried over into the classroom where Pruitt taught math, science and agriculture.

"He taught me in 8th grade science, and as time went along, he taught my son and coached my son and taught my daughter," said Superintendent Dr. Belinda Shook. "He's just an extraordinary person and he's been an exemplary educator, and that's what we all want to be."

After his decades in the classroom and on the football field, the district decided to name its field house after Pruitt when he retired in 2006.

"That shows how many people's lives he's touched," Shook said of the Field House.  "We are really praying that everything turns out, and he has a speedy recovery."

The community is praying for Pruitt and hoping he'll score as well in the hospital as he did on the field.

After being admitted to the hospital, his brother said that Pruitt suffered a stroke and has had a number of complications since then.

There's a Facebook page called "Thoughts and Prayers for Coach Bill Pruitt" if folks want to share their thoughts and prayers.
