RUSSELLVILLE (Ark Tech) - League head coaches have picked Arkansas Tech University to finish eighth among the eleven teams that will compete for the 2013 Great American Conference football championship, announced by the league office today.
The Wonder Boys are under the direction of head coach Raymond Monica, who is beginning his first season as Arkansas Tech head football coach.
Henderson State University is the preseason favorite to win the GAC football title. The Reddies earned ten first-place votes and a total of 100 points.
Southern Arkansas had 85 points with one first-place vote putting them in second place followed by Harding University with 83 points. Following in fourth place is Ouachita Baptist (73 points), East Central (5th, 65 points), Southeastern Oklahoma (6th, 49 points), and Southwestern Oklahoma (7th, 47 points), respectively.
Arkansas Tech comes in eighth with 37 points preceded by Arkansas-Monticello (31 points), Northwestern Oklahoma State (18 points), and Southern Nazarene (17 points).
The Wonder Boys Green and Gold scrimmage will be August 27 at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field. There will be a 6 p.m. kick off.
