KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Univ. of Ark.) - The eighth-ranked University of Arkansas women's golf team headlines the field of 17 teams for the 17th Annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend.
The three-day event takes place at Cherokee Country Club, a par 71, 5,897 yard course in Knoxville, Tenn. The Razorbacks tee off against No. 18 Tulane, South Carolina, host Tennessee, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Michigan, UCF, Campbell, Louisville and Penn State, all of whom are receiving votes in the Golf World Preseason poll. The rest of the field includes College of Charleston, Chattanooga, Missouri, Ole Miss, Rollins and UTSA.
"It's another great field for us," Estes-Taylor said. "It's a golf course that Mike (Adams) and I have seen a lot and I feel like it fits our team really well. Having come off a good final round at Tulsa puts us in a good spot mentally and we're excited to get to Knoxville and tee it up again."
The @RazorbackWGolf team played to a sixth-place showing last week in the season opener at the Dale McNamara NCAA Preview facing 11 teams in the top 15 that week. Sophomore Regina Plasencia paced the team with a fifth-place finish while seniors Emma Lavy and Emily Tubert had under-par final rounds on the third day.
This week, the Razorbacks will again travel Plasencia, Lavy and Tubert along with sophomore Gabriela Lopez and freshman Summar Roachell who were both in the lineup last week as well. In addition, redshirt freshman Olivia Lavy makes her collegiate debut playing as an individual in Tennessee this week.
"Regina was just really solid all week in the opener," Estes-Taylor said. "I'm really proud of Regina. She has come a long way mechanically and managing the course.
"Emily and Gaby are just very solid players," Estes-Taylor continued. "Emily brings a lot of power to the golf course and is really a good leader out there. Gaby is fundamentally sound and I really expect her to have a great sophomore season."
Arkansas opens play with a 9:20 a.m. Eastern, 8:20 a.m. Central tee time and plays with Tennessee and UTSA in the first round. Results are available online.
