NORMAN, Okla. (A-State) - The Arkansas State women's tennis team concluded play in the USTA/ITA Regional Tournament in Norman, Okla. after doubles play on Friday and the singles main draw played on Saturday.
Friday, the A-State doubles pairs of Tamara Slijepcevic/Janie Nowland and Biljana Miloshevska/Julie Gauguery were in action. Slijepcevic/Nowland defeated Saint Louis's pair of Madeline Jolly/Taylor Monken 8-0 before falling to the 9-16 seeded pair of Maggy Lehmicke/Mary Hanna from Nebraska by a count of 8-3. Miloshevska/Gauguery were defeated in their first match by Missouri's pair of Alex Clark/Madison Rhyner by a count of 8-3.
In the singles main draw on Saturday, Slijepcevic faced off against the No. 1 seed Petra Neidermayerova of Kansas State and lost in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Miloshevska squared off against 9-16 seeded Mia Lancaster of Oklahoma and put up a strong fight, but ultimately fell by a score of 7-6(4), 6-3.
"We had the opportunity to play some of the top players in the country," A-State women's tennis coach Marina Engelbrecht said. "Our ladies played hard and this has been a great learning experience for them. We look forward to closing out the fall season with our home tournament."
A-State will conclude its fall season when the Red Wolves host the ASU Invitational Oct. 25-27 at Allen Park in Jonesboro, Ark.
