Huntsville, Texas (UCA) - The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears continued their five game road swing on Saturday afternoon, hitting the road for Huntsville, Texas to square off with Sam Houston State. The Bearkats took the first set 25-21, but Central Arkansas responded by taking the second set 25-18, the third set 25-13, and the fourth set 26-24 to improve to a perfect 14-0 in Southland Conference play.
Central Arkansas (22-3, 14-0 SLC) had three players with double-digit kills in the match, led by Jessica Nagy, who had a team-high 16 kills to go along with four blocks. Heather Schnars turned in a great all-around performance for the Sugar Bears, tallying 15 kills, eight digs, three blocks, and two aces; as did Scout Brooks, who had 10 kills, eight digs, and three blocks.
Marissa Collins keyed the Central Arkansas offense on Saturday, dishing out a match-high 43 assists. Shelbee Berringer led a Central Arkansas defense that held Sam Houston (14-9, 11-3 SLC) to a hitting percentage of just .059, turning in a match-high 20 digs. Deveney Wells-Gibson had a match-high 23 kills to lead the Bearkats, while Tayler Gray had 42 assists. Gray, Krista Koopman, and Breanna Homer each had 16 digs for Sam Houston State.
Central Arkansas returns to action next Saturday, heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a 2:00 PM match against Oral Roberts.
