JONESBORO, Ark. (A-State) - The Arkansas State baseball program has signed five recruits for the 2015 season, head coach Tommy Raffo announced Wednesday. Members of the signing class will be eligible to compete for the Red Wolves beginning with the 2015 season and will enroll in school for the 2014-15 academic year.
"It is very important that we continue to find young men that can compete for championships very early in their careers," Raffo said. "We feel that our coaches, Anthony Everman and Tighe Dickinson, have done an excellent job finding high school talent that matches a want to compete a high level at Arkansas State. Our outgoing senior class is very small so we became very selective in finding the right student-athlete to fill our needs for this recruiting class. We feel these young men will impact Red Wolves baseball for years to come."
The Red Wolves incoming class for 2015 includes Zachary Patterson, a 6'0, 200-pound right-handed pitcher from Cabot, Ark. (Cabot High School); Timothy Seldomridge a 5'9, 150-pound infielder from Rogers, Ark. (Rogers High School); Jeremiah Brown a 6'1, 170-pound infielder from Festus, Mo. (Festus R-6 High School); Daniel Jurney a 6'0, 195-pound catcher from Arvada, Colo. (Ralston Valley High School) and Brett Anderson a 5'10, 175-pound infielder from Overland Park, Kan. (Olathe East High School).
As a junior, Patterson helped Cabot reach the class 7A Arkansas State Tournament where he was named to the all-tournament team. He finished the year with a 1.83 ERA and was selected to the all-conference team. He participated in the Xtra Innings Classic in Jonesboro and played for the Rawlings Prospects this past summer with current A-State baseball players Tyler Zuber and Bryan Ayers.
Seldomridge helped guide Rogers to the class 7A Arkansas state championship game where the Mountaineers finished as the state runner-up. As a junior, he had a .354 batting average with 12 RBIs and garnered all-conference honorable mention honors. He also participated in the Xtra Innings Classic in Jonesboro and has been a three-year starter on the varsity squad.
Brown won a state championship as a freshman in 2011 with Festus R-6 High School after hitting .310 at the plate. His average rose to .390 in 2012 and then finished with a .402 clip at the plate as a junior last season, which earned him all-conference honors. He was also named as an all-district shortstop and selected to the all-district dream team. He drove in 23 runs and had a .404 on-base percentage while playing for the Festus Post 253 American Legion baseball team in 2013.
Jurney prepped at Ralston Valley High School in Colorado where he had a .408 batting average as a junior this past season. He was class 5A all-league honorable mention selection by MaxPreps.com and a class 5A honorable mention all-conference selection by the Colorado High School Athletic Association. Jurney hit three home runs and drove in 20 RBIs, while slugging .478 last year. He also had three doubles and a .364 on-base percentage.
Anderson has earned numerous awards throughout his prep career, including being named an honorable mention selection to the 2013 Rawlings Perfect Game Underclassman squad. He has been a three-year varsity player at Olathe East High School in Kansas where he hit .434 with 18 doubles and a .531 on-base percentage as a junior. He was selected to participate on the Kansas City Royals Elite Scout Team this past summer and also took part in the Building Champions baseball academy in Kansas.
