FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Univ. of Ark.) - The University of Arkansas men's track and field team debuted at No. 1 in the 2014 Preseason Rankings, as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
The Razorbacks are the defending NCAA Indoor Champions, winning their first championship under Head Coach Chris Bucknam and breaking Florida's previous streak of three-consecutive championships. The Gators entered the rankings at No. 2, with Oregon just behind in the No. 3 spot. Wisconsin comes in at No. 4, while Southeastern Conference foe Texas A&M rounds out the top-five.
Arkansas earned the SEC triple crown last season, sweeping the cross country, indoor and outdoor titles. The Razorbacks were honored with All-American awards throughout the season and three individual national champions. The national champion men's 4x400 meter relay team of Marek Niit, Neil Braddy, Caleb Cross and Akheem Gauntlett broke the collegiate record with a time of 3:03.50.
Arkansas began its 2014 campaign Friday with the Arkansas Invitational at Randal Tyson Track Center where the Razorbacks earned a first-place finish with 141 points. This Friday Arkansas hosts the rival event of the season as No. 15 Texas comes to Randal Tyson Indoor for the Texas Duals. Action starts at 6 p.m.
