MAGNOLIA, Ark. (SAU) - The Southern Arkansas women's basketball team ran into a defensively-tough Arkansas Tech team on Saturday afternoon at the W.T. Watson Center and the Lady Muleriders would find it difficult to generate much offense against Tech as the Golden Suns worked past the Lady Muleriders by a score of 59-42.
The Lady Muleriders (7-7, 3-5 GAC), who scored 27 points in the first half, were held to their lowest scoring output of the season in a second half as they were limited to just 15 second-half points.
Despite the low-scoring output, SAU jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the game as Erin Luton made the team's first basket followed by a conventional three-point play conversion by Stevi Cooper. That lead would be erased over the next 5:41 of the game, however, as the Lady Muleriders' shooting went cold, allowing the Golden Suns to methodically go on a 10-0 run to move ahead in the game.
That lead change would be the one and only of the game as the Golden Suns would not relinquish the lead the rest of the game.
The Lady Muleriders were led in scoring by Chanel Miller as she scored 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Miller would also lead the team in rebounding with eight rebounds. Cooper was the next leading scorer for the Lady Muleriders as she chipped in eight points.
Next up for the Lady Muleriders is a mid-week road game at Henderson State on Tuesday, January 21. The game is a make-up date from earlier this season when the initial meeting was postponed due to weather. Tip-off for the game is set for 5:30 p.m.
