ARKADELPHIA, Ark (HSU) - Henderson State's Melissa Ralston and Camille Leary finished first and second in the 100 yard breaststroke to secure a 107-98 win over Rhodes College in women's swimming action, Saturday in Memphis, Tenn.
The meet came down to the final two events, the 100 yard breaststroke and the 200 freestyle relay.
Ralston claimed the victory in the 100 breaststroke having a time of 1:08.71, but Leary's second-place finish (1:12.29) in the event was huge as Rhodes won the 200 freestyle relay. The 1-2 finish in the 100 breaststroke was too much for Rhodes to overcome.
The meet began with Henderson's 200 medley relay team of Shannon Goggins, Ralston, Erin Beu and Desi Lobuono swimming to victory with a time of 1:53.94.
In the first individual event of the afternoon, Alex Walton placed second in the 1650 freestyle turning in a time of 19:29.05.
Jeanne Miller recorded a pair of wins in the 200 freestyle (2:00.91) and later in the 400 individual medley (4:45.93).
Lauren Sutton claimed a victory in the 100 freestyle (54.94) and also finished in second-place in the 500 freestyle (5:24.69).
Beu also won an individual event by claiming the 100 butterfly by touching the wall in a time of 1:02.94. Beu later placed second in the 50 freestyle (26.18).
The Lady Red Wave also had second-place finishes by Jessica Miller in 400 individual medley (4:51.47) and Shannon Goggins in the 100 backstroke (1:05.31).
On Friday, the Lady Red Wave lost to Delta State 162-43 and West Florida 176-54.
