FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The No. 25 Arkansas baseball team (2-0) defeated Appalachian State (0-2) 7-6 in game two of its three-game series on Saturday at Baum Stadium with an announced attendance of 8,074.
Junior Chris Oliver (1-0) picked up the victory on the mound. The Farmington, Ark., native struck out five, allowed one hit and one earned run in five innings of work. Fellow junior Michael Gunn threw the final 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out two to earn the save.
Arkansas' offense was led by junior second baseman Brian Anderson, who was 3-for-5 at the plate, scored two runs and added his first stolen base of the season. Junior first baseman Eric Fisher opened the scoring with a solo home run to center field in the 2nd inning and drove in the Razorbacks' final run of the game with a single in the 6th. Sophomore outfielder Tyler Spoon led Arkansas with three RBI courtesy of a three-run homer in the bottom of the 4th inning.
The season-opening series concludes Sunday at 1:05 p.m. in Baum Stadium.
