Pullman, WA (Sports Network) - C.J. Anderson rushed for 112 yards and a pair
of touchdowns as the California Golden Bears earned a 31-17 Pac-12 road
victory over the Washington State Cougars at Martin Stadium.
Zach Maynard added 78 yards on the ground while completing 14-of-23 pass
attempts for 189 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for California
(3-4, 2-2 Pac-12). Keenan Allen caught 11 of Maynard's 14 total completions
for 166 yards and a touchdown. The Golden Bears have now won back-to-back
games for the first time this season.
After Connor Halliday was pulled early on Jeff Tuel completed 30-of-53 pass
attempts for 320 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Washington State
(2-5, 0-4). Halliday had thrown interceptions on two of the Cougars' first
three drives. Isiah Myers had eight receptions for 108 yards while Brett
Bartolone caught a pair of touchdown passes. The Cougars have lost four
straight.
Maynard connected with Allen for a 69-yard touchdown pass to put the Golden
Bears on top, 7-0, late in the first quarter.
Washington State got on the board when it settled for a 20-yard field goal
from Andrew Furney at the end of a 16-play, 86-yard drive.
A four-yard rushing touchdown from Anderson pushed California's lead to
14-3 midway through the second quarter.
Maynard scored from a yard out to extend California's lead to 21-3 early in
the second half.
Midway through the third quarter Tuel completed an eight-yard touchdown pass
to Bartolone to cut the Cougars' deficit to 21-10.
Vincenzo D'Amato nailed a 52-yard field goal a little over four minutes later
to push the California lead to two touchdowns, 24-10.
Anderson added his second touchdown of the game (29 yards) early in the fourth
quarter as the Golden Bears pulled away.
Tuel hooked up with Bartolone again, this time for a six-yard score, midway
through the fourth quarter but the Cougars would not score again as California
closed out the victory.
California held a massive 318-36 edge in rushing yards.
