Little Rock, AR (Sports Network) - Led by John Gillon's 22 points, the
Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans defeated the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks 84-68, in
a non-conference matchup at Jack Stephens Center.
James White added 18 points for the Trojans (1-0), while Taggart Lockhart
chipped in 10 and Will Neighbour posted a double-double with 13 points and 13
rebounds.
Myles Taylor led all scorers with 24 points for the Skyhawks (0-1), while
Terrence Smith and Jeremy Washington each scored 10 points.
Tennesse-Martin shot 40 percent from the field in the first half, but made
only 2-of-7 from three-point range. Arkansas-Little Rock shot 42.9 percent,
including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, as the Trojans went into halftime with
a 39-32 lead.
The Trojans continued to get the better of the Skyhawks from the field in the
second half. While the Skyhawks improved to 42.3 percent, the Trojans
improved as well, making 48.5 percent from the field. After leading by just
five points, 68-63, with 4:23 to play, Arkansas-Little Rock went on a 12-2 run
to finally put away the game and secure the victory.
The Trojans bench came up big, outscoring the Skyhawks reserves, 46-16. The
Trojans also dominated in the paint, outscoring the Skyhawks 28-18.
