Ralston, NE (Sports Network) - C.J. Carter paced four scorers in double
figures with 16 points as Nebraska Omaha posted a 77-64 victory over Northern
Illinois at Ralston Arena.
Also in double figures for Nebraska Omaha (1-0) was Alex Welhouse (13), John
Karhoff (12) and Justin Simmons (12).
Aksel Bolin had a team-high 11 points for Northern Illinois (0-1) while
Daveon Balls added 10 off the bench. Keith Gray had a game-high seven
rebounds.
The first half was tight with Northern Illinois actually leading 33-32 at the
break. The Huskies hit on 10-of-26 field goal attempts in the opening period
and outscored Nebraska Omaha 9-7 fro the free throw line. Nebraska Omaha
connected on 11-of-23 field goal attempts.
Nebraska Omaha shot 46.4 percent in the second half and doubled up Northern
Illinois on points from the free throw line (16-8) to pull away for the
double-digit margin of victory.
Northern Illinois turned the ball over 24 times which Nebraska Omaha used to
secure a 32-18 edge in points of turnovers.
