Anchorage, AK (Sports Network) - Anthony Ireland scored 23 points to lead
the Loyola Marymount Lions over the Texas State Bobcats, 78-63, in the
consolation round of the Great Alaska Shootout.
Ireland led the Lions (3-2) in scoring while pulling down seven rebounds and
dishing out four assists. Ashley Hamilton recorded a double-double with 13
points and 14 rebounds. Ayodeji Egbeyemi added 18 points and six rebounds,
while Chase Flint scored seven to go with eight rebounds and six assists.
Loyola will advance to play Alaska-Anchorage in the fifth-place game on
Saturday.
Vonn James scored 14 to pace the Bobcats (2-3), who will play UC Riverside in
the seventh-place game. Corey Stern tallied 10 points with seven rebounds and
Matt Staff scored 11 off the bench. Reid Koenen had nine points and eight
rebounds.
Loyola led 33-28 at halftime, although both teams struggled shooting the
ball in the first half. The Lions shot 33.3 percent from the field while the
Bobcats made just 32.1 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening
frame.
In the second half, the Lions got rolling and shot 57.1 percent from the floor
while they outscored Texas State, 45-35.
Loyola scored 22 points off 14 Bobcat turnovers.
