Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Josh Crittle scored 17 points and recorded his
first career double-double to lead the Illinois-Chicago Flames to a win over
the SE Missouri State Redhawks, 56-45, at UIC Pavilion.
Crittle shot 7-of-13 from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Flames
(4-1). Gary Talton scored 14 points while Daniel Barnes added 10. Hayden Humes
struggled from the floor, shooting only 1-of-11, but matched Crittle with 12
boards.
Corey Wilford led the Redhawks (3-4) with 15 points. Tyler Stone also finished
in double figures with 14, but shot just 6-of-19 from the field. Nine Johnson
had a team-high 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
The Redhawks led by seven early on but were unable to hold onto their
advantage, allowing UIC to claim a 28-25 edge at the break. The Flames shot
only 3-of-11 beyond the arc in the first half, as well as 1-of-3 at the free-
throw line.
The poor shooting continued on both sides, but the Flames were able to get to
the foul line 12 more times than the Redhawks in the second half and that
proved to be key as the hosts outscored SEMO 11-3 at the charity stripe in the
period.
The first ever meeting between the two schools, the Flames survived despite
shooting a meager 28.8 percent from the floor and 6-of-24 behind the three-
point line.
