Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Isaiah Armwood scored a career-high 23
points as the George Washington Colonials defeated the Manhattan Jaspers,
67-55, as part of the BB&T Classic at the Verizon Center.
Armwood shot 8-of-12 from the field and also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked
six shots for George Washington (4-3). Lasan Kromah scored 18 points, and
Patricio Garino added 10 points.
For Manhattan (2-4), RaShawn Stores came off the bench to tally 11 points and
six rebounds, while George Beamon recorded nine points, seven boards, and four
steals.
Manhattan held the advantage for much of the first half and led by as many as
seven, but George Washington climbed back in the game and the teams went into
intermission tied at 32-32. Manhattan drained 4-of-9 from three-point range in
the first half, while George Washington made 10-of-12 from the free throw
line.
With a Kromah layup early in the second half, the Colonials took a 36-34 lead,
and they would not surrender that advantage for the rest of the game.
George Washington connected on 24-of-29 from the foul line and won the
rebounding battle, 41-27, which helped mask an ugly 23 turnovers.
