Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Geron Johnson scored a career-high 21 points
off the bench for the Memphis Tigers as they handled the Ohio University
Bobcats, 84-58, at FedExForum.
Johnson was 8-of-11 from the field, while Shaq Goodwin joined him with a
career-high 20 points and led the Tigers (5-2) with nine rebounds. Joe Jackson
added 10 points and five assists while Antonio Barton scored 11 points off the
bench on 5-of-8 shooting. Memphis has now won three in a row after losing two
straight.
D.J. Cooper scored 19 points, hitting 4-of-6 shots behind the three-point line
for the Bobcats (6-2) who have now lost two in a row after opening the
campaign with a six-game win streak. Jon Smith added 12 points and seven
rebounds.
Memphis led 36-28 at halftime after both teams struggled at the offensive end
of the floor early, with the Tigers' only points in the first six minutes of
the game coming from four free-throws. The hosts knocked down just 1-of-10
shots beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half the Tigers pulled away as they shot 61.3 percent from the
field and held the Bobcats to 2-of-11 out on the perimeter.
Ohio, which was beaten on the glass 38-27, turned the ball over 17 times which
Memphis converted into 23 points.
