Jersey City, NJ (Sports Network) - A jumper by Blaise Ffrench with time
winding down provided the Saint Peter's Peacocks with a thrilling 64-62 win
over the Iona Gaels at the Yanitelli Center.
Ffrench scored 17 points, as did Darius Conley who was one rebound shy of a
double-double for the Peacocks (4-4, 1-0 MAAC). Desi Washington chipped in 15
points and four steals in the triumph.
For the Gaels (3-3, 1-1), Sean Armand had a game-high 19 points and eight
rebounds. Tavon Sledge and Lamont Jones contributed 13 and 11 points,
respectively.
Both teams struggled shooting in the first half, Saint Peter's was held to
only 7-of-27 from the floor, while Iona made 12-of-33 en route to a 31-21 lead
at the break.
Saint Peter's converted 51.5 percent from the floor after intermission, making
good on 3-of-6 from behind the arc. It also held Iona to a mere 1-of-6 from
three-point range in the period.
The home team survived despite shooting 5-of-16 from long range on the night.
Iona also struggled shooting 28.6 percent from the perimeter.
