DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - Aksel Bolin scored a team-high 15 points as he
helped guide the Northern Illinois Huskies to a 65-54 win over the SIU
Edwardsville Cougars at the NIU Convocation Center.
Bolin made good on 7-of-10 shots from the floor for the Huskies (2-5). Sam
Mader and Travon Baker contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
For the Cougars (2-4), Jerome Jones scored a game-high 19 points and Kris
Davis finished with 16 in the setback.
The Huskies opened on a 6-0 run and never looked back, eventually taking a
36-25 advantage at the break. SIU Edwardsville was held to a mere eight field
goals through the first 20 minutes of action.
SIU Edwardsville made some progress in the second half, hitting 42.9 percent
from the floor (9-of-21), but the Huskies continued their solid play
shooting 45.8 percent from the field.
NIU controlled the glass, 33-25, and held the visitors to only 17-of-43
shooting from the floor on the night.
