Little Rock, AR (Sports Network) - John Gillon scored a game-high 17 points and
grabbed seven rebounds to lift the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans to a 72-65
victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in a non-conference tilt at the Jack
Stephens Center.
James White added 12 points in 20 minutes off the bench for UALR (8-4), which
won for the fourth time in five outings. Josh Hagins chipped in 11 points.
D'Andre Wright paced Tulsa (6-4) with 15 points and James Woodard recorded a
double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. The loss snapped the Golden
Hurricane's two-game winning streak.
The Trojans got off to a good start and managed to build a 23-12 lead just over
eight minutes after tip-off. UALR's bench outscored Tulsa's reserves, 18-8, in
the opening half which sent the hosts into the intermission with a 39-28
advantage.
After trailing 61-46 with 6:12 left in regulation, Tulsa went on a 10-1 run to
cut the deficit to just four points. However, the Golden Hurricane was unable
to make it a one possession game. UALR held on for the win despite shooting
36.4 percent from the floor and missing nine free throws in the final 20
minutes.
Tulsa enjoyed a 40-37 advantage in the rebounding battle, but it was unable to
overcome its 18 turnovers which the Trojans converted into 15 points.
