Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Mikh McKinney tallied 21 points to lead the
Sacramento State Hornets clipped the Montana State Bobcats, 62-57, in a Big
Sky Conference matchup at The Nest.
Konner Veteto added 19 points and nine assists for Sacramento State (6-3, 1-0
Big Sky) as it snapped a two-game losing slide. John Dickson netted 11 points
and Joe Eberhard grabbed a game-high total of 10 rebounds.
Xavier Blount paced Montana State (2-7, 0-2) with 15 points on 4-of-10
shooting from the floor. Paul Egwuonwu contributed 10 points and seven boards
as the Bobcats suffered their second setback in a row and sixth loss in seven
outings.
Despite converting only 34.6 percent of their field goal attempts in the
opening 20 minutes, the Hornets took a 28-21 lead into the intermission.
Montana State was ice cold in the first half with just nine makes on 28 field
goal attempts including just 1-of-9 from beyond the arc.
The Bobcats trailed by as many as 14 after the break before storming back to
cut the deficit to three points with a make from distance by Antonio Biglow
with just under a minute remaining on the clock. McKinney drained a pair of
free throws to end the threat on Sacramento State's next possession. Montana
State scored eight points off of turnovers in the second half to help narrow
the margin on the scoreboard.
The Hornets held a 43-34 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored the
visitors 17-11 at the free throw line.
