Cedar City, UT (Sports Network) - Wade Collie's layup with under 15 seconds
remaining in regulation proved to be the difference as the Southern Utah
Thunderbirds slipped by with a 51-50 decision over Northern Colorado in Big
Sky Conference action at Centrum Arena.
Collie finished with 13 points and six rebounds for the Thunderbirds (4-7, 2-0
Big Sky) as they won for the second time in the last three outings. Jackson
Stevenett missed all four of his 3-point shots, but still finished with a
game-high 14 points in the victory.
The Bears (3-7, 1-1) were paced by Derrick Barden who came up a rebound shy of
a double-double as he tallied 12 points, while Emmanuel Addo contributed 10
points off the bench as they had a two-game win streak snapped.
Both teams shot under 37 percent from the floor in the first half, but because
SUU hit on only 1-of-6 beyond the arc in the frame, it allowed the Bears to
post a 27-22 lead at the break.
In the second half again the Thunderbirds struggled on the perimeter (1-
of-10), but that didn't stop Collie from playing the hero down the stretch in
the close call.
Southern Utah compensated for a meager 33.9 percent shooting from the floor,
2-of-16 on the outside, for the game by forcing the visitors into 18
turnovers.
