Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Allen Crabbe paced the Golden Bears with 27
points as California defeated the USC Trojans, 72-64, in a Pac-12 Conference
duel at the Galen Center.
Justin Cobbs and Tyrone Wallace scored 10 points each for California (9-5, 1-1
Pac-12) as it snapped a two-game losing streak. David Kravish contributed nine
points, seven rebounds, and three blocks to help the Golden Bears pick up
their first conference victory of the season.
USC (6-9, 1-1) had won its previous two outings, but its brief winning streak
came to an end despite a 14-point outing by Eric Wise. Byron Wesley added 13
points while Jio Fontan netted 11 points and dealt out six assists. Dewayne
Dedmon also had a strong showing as he recorded a double-double of 10 points
and 11 boards to go along with four blocks.
Cal held a narrow 32-29 edge on the scoreboard at the conclusion of the first
half after it knocked down 44.4 percent of its field goal attempts in the
opening 20 minutes. The Trojans stayed within striking distance by hitting
40.7 percent of their shots from the floor in the first period.
The Golden Bears outscored the hosts, 15-3, at the free throw line after the
break to maintain its lead for the entire second half.
USC lost despite overpowering its way to a 36-22 advantage in points in the
paint.
