Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Brandon Jawato tallied 21 points in 21 minutes
off the bench to push the Hawaii Warriors to a 76-61 victory over the UC
Riverside Highlanders in a Big West Conference matchup at the Stan Sheriff
Center.
Christian Standhardinger chipped in 17 points for Hawaii (9-5, 3-0 Big West),
which also received a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds from Vander
Joaquim. Isaac Fotu for into the mix with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from
the floor as the Warriors notched their third consecutive win.
Josh Fox scored a team-high of 12 points to go along with six rebounds for UC
Riverside (4-11, 1-2) as it lost for the third time in four outings. Tre Owens
and Dayton Boddie contributed 10 points each off the bench.
Hawaii took a sizeable 40-21 lead into halftime after it knocked down 60
percent of its field goal attempts including 8-of-12 from 3-point range in the
opening 20 minutes. The Highlanders fell behind early on as they shot just 31
percent from the floor in the first half.
UC Riverside played much better after the break and won the second half by
four points, but the Warriors converted 10-of-12 at the charity stripe to
coast to the 15-point decision.
Hawaii enjoyed a 30-25 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored the
visitors, 30-9, from beyond the arc.
