Football bears make All-Academic team

CONWAY, Ark. (UCA) -- Three University of Central Arkansas football players were named Tuesday to the 2012 Southland Conference All-Academic football team.

Graduate student Seth Allison, junior Matt Hornbuckle and redshirt freshman Jonathan Woodard were named to the team.

Allison, a linebacker from Stuttgart, Ark., has a 3.83 while getting his masters of business administration. Hornbuckle, a defensive lineman from Colleyville, Texas, has a 3.10 in management. Woodard, a defensive end from Brentwood, Tenn., has a 3.00 with an undeclared major.

Allison was a first-team All-Southland Conference selection last fall and finished his UCA career with 252 total tackles and 8 interceptions. He was UCA's third-leading tackler this season and had a team-high 3 forced fumbles. Allison was also a third-team All-American by The Sports Network.

Woodard was the SLC Freshman of the Year and a first-team All-SLC selection last fall after finishing seventh in the conference in tackles for loss with 10.5 and recovering three fumbles, one returned 72 yards for a touchdown. He was UCA's second SLC Freshman of the Year.

Hornbuckle was a second-team All-SLC pick in 2012, finishing with 34 total tackles, including 4 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.
The Bears, who finished 9-3 last season and were co-champions of the SLC, were No. 10 in the final FCS poll by The Sports Network. It was the highest finish for UCA since moving to NCAA Division I in 2006. The Bears reached the second round of the FCS Playoffs for the second consecutive season.
