Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - Alec Brown scored a game-high 21 points as he
guided the Green Bay Phoenix to a 53-47 win over the Flames of Illinois-
Chicago in Horizon League action at the Resch Center.
Brown, the only player to score in double figures for Green Bay (8-9, 2-2 HL)
accounted for eight rebounds, four blocked shots and a pair of steals as the
team won for the second time in as many games.
The Flames (10-7, 1-3) were led by Gary Talton who tallied 11 points on 3-of-5
shooting behind the 3-point line, with Marc Brown chipping in nine points off
the bench for a squad that bowed for the sixth time in the last seven outings.
Both teams had trouble shooting the ball in the first half, yet even with a
mere 8-of-28 from the floor in the period the Flames were able to knot the
score at the break, 26-26. Green Bay made good on just 38.5 percent from the
field, including 2-of-10 behind the 3-point line.
In the second half the Phoenix again struggled with only 33.3 percent accuracy
from the floor, but managed to move ahead thanks to 12-of-16 shooting at the
free-throw line.
In addition to turning the ball over just six times on the day, the hosts also
outscored UIC at the charity stripe, 16-8.
