DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - Led by a game-high 20 points from Reggie
McAdams, the Akron Zips took down the Northern Illinois Huskies, 68-53, in a
Mid-American Conference matchup at the NIU Convocation Center.
For the Zips (11-4, 2-0 MAC), Nick Harney added 12 points, while Demetrius
Treadwell and Deji Ibitayo each chipped in with 11. Treadwell just missed a
double-double by pulling down nine rebounds.
Darrell Bowie led the Huskies (3-11, 1-1) with 13 points, while Abdel Nader
finished with 10 points on just 3-of-12 shooting from the floor.
Akron shot 48.1 percent from the field and held NIU to just 22.7 percent
shooting in the first half, as the Zips led at the break, 36-24. An 18-5 run
by the Zips early in the half gave the visitors a comfortable cushion.
The Huskies improved their shooting in the second half, hitting on 40.7
percent of their field goal tries, but still struggled from beyond the 3-point
arc at just 1-of-6, after missing all eight tries before the break. Akron saw
its lead cut to just six with 11:29 remaining, but responded with a 19-6 run
to put the game away and remain perfect in league play.
The Zips outscored the Huskies in the paint, 32-22. NIU finished the contest
just 1-of-14 from 3-point range.
