New Rochelle, NY (Sports Network) - Sean Armand matched a career-high with 32
points as the Iona Gaels ran past the Canisius Golden Griffins, 97-87, in
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Hynes Athletic Center.
Armand shot 11-of-18 from the field, including 9-of-15 from 3-point range, for
Iona (11-6, 5-1 MAAC), which has won five straight. Tre Bowman also tallied a
career-high with 24 points off the bench, while David Laury and A.J. English
netted 13 and 10 points, respectively.
For Canisius, Harold Washington scored 26 points and Billy Baron recorded a
double-double with 20 points and 11 assists. Jordan Heath chipped in 13
points, and Chris Manhertz ripped down 14 rebounds in the setback.
Canisius outshot Iona from the field in a high-scoring first half, 52.9
percent to 45 percent, as it took a 49-47 lead into intermission.
The Gaels' field goal shooting improved to a lofty 68 percent after the break,
including 10-of-13 from 3-point range, to pull away in the second half.
Iona took full advantage of 14 Canisius turnovers, turning those miscues into
28 points.
