Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - Zeke Marshall nearly posted a triple-double for
the Akron Zips as they rolled by the Toledo Rockets, 71-56, in a Mid-American
Conference battle at Savage Arena.
Marshall had a game-high 18 points while blocking nine shots to go with eight
rebounds for Akron (14-4, 5-0 MAC) which has won 10 straight. Alex Abreu
chipped in 11 points and nine assists, Demetrius Treadwell managed a
double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds and Chauncey Gilliam added 12
points off the bench. Marshall's nine rejections tied a career high.
Rian Pearson had 16 points to go with eight rebounds for Toledo (6-10, 2-3)
which has lost three straight. Julius Brown added 11 points and five assists.
Akron dominated in the first half and led 36-21 at the break by shooting 41.7
percent from the field including a 4-of-11 effort from beyond the arc. Toledo
managed to shoot just 30.3 percent from the floor with just one 3-pointer.
Marshall recorded seven of his blocks in the period.
Both teams improved their shooting in the second half. Akron connected on 48.1
percent of its attempts which was enough to hold off Toledo which heated up to
46.4 percent.
The Zips outscored the Rockets 30-6 from beyond the arc and 24-6 on second
chance points.
