New Rochelle, NY (Sports Network) - Lamont Jones led all scorers with 24
points as the Iona Gaels made easy work of the Saint Peter's Peacocks, 90-71,
in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Hynes Athletic Center.
Jones, the nation's fourth-leading scorer (22.2 ppg), has poured in 20 or more
points 15 times this season, including in three straight.
All five starters scored in double figures for Iona (13-7, 7-2 MAAC), which
won for the seventh time in its last eight games. David Laury tallied 14
points and 10 rebounds, Tavon Sledge also recorded a double-double with 13
points and 10 assists, while Sean Armand and Tre Bowman each netted 13 as well
for the hosts.
For Saint Peter's (6-13, 1-8), Chris Burke logged 18 points and 10 boards,
Blaise Ffrench had 14 points, and Desi Washington chipped in 11 points.
Iona shot nearly 52 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-
of-10 from 3-point range, as it took a 42-29 lead into intermission. Saint
Peter's shot 40 percent in the opening 20 minutes but was just 3-of-13 from
beyond the arc.
The Peacocks never got closer than eight points of the lead in the second
half.
The Gaels finished 32-of-55 from the field (.582) on the night and committed
just six turnovers.
