Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Lamont Jones scored a game-high 23 points as
the Iona Gaels captured a 79-71 win over the Greyhounds of Loyola-Maryland
in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Reitz Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Gaels (14-7, 8-2 MAAC) were Sean Armand
and Tre Bowman with 14 and 11 points, respectively, while David Laury
registered a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as the
team won for the eighth time in the last nine outings.
The Greyhounds (15-7, 7-3) were led by Dylon Cormier who tallied 18 points and
seven rebounds as he moved back into the lineup after missing the game against
Manhattan on Friday. Robert Olson accounted for 14 points, Jordan Latham 11,
while Anthony Winbush came off the bench to post 10 rebounds as the team had a
three-game win streak snapped.
Iona opened the meeting on a 13-4 run and used 16 points in the paint in the
first half to register a 38-30 advantage at the break.
In the second half the Gaels led by double digits for most of the period
before claiming the eight-point triumph.
In addition to holding Loyola to just 38.9 percent shooting from the floor,
the Gaels also limited the hosts to 7-of-24 shooting beyond the arc and
watched the Greyhounds make only 8-of-18 attempts at the free-throw line.
