Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Kyle Anderson scored 15 points as the
Delaware Blue Hens fended off a late comeback attempt by the Drexel Dragons to
hold on to a 66-64 win in a Colonial Athletic Association showdown at the
Daskalakis Center.
Devon Saddler tallied 13 points and seven assists for Delaware (9-11, 4-3
CAA), which snapped a three-game losing streak. Jamelle Hagins netted 11
points, Josh Brinkley poured in 10, and Carl Baptiste recorded eight points
and 13 rebounds from off the bench.
For Drexel (8-12, 4-4), Damion Lee shot 10-of-21 from the field and 7-of-8
from the foul line for a career-high 30 points before fouling out. Frantz
Massenat added 15 points, and Daryl McCoy ripped down 10 boards for the
Dragons, who had won their previous three contests.
Delaware opened the game on a 23-9 run and went into intermission with a 31-24
advantage.
The Blue Hens' lead appeared well in hand up 15 with 4:22 to play in the game,
but the Dragons pulled off a 15-1 surge to make their deficit just one, 65-64,
following a pair of Massenat free throws with 1:04 remaining. After empty
possessions by both sides, Anderson made 1-of-2 at the line for Delaware with
three seconds left, and Massenat's game-winning 3-point attempt at the buzzer
did not fall.
Delaware shot 50.9 percent from the field while holding Drexel to only 34.4
percent shooting.
