Cheney, WA (Sports Network) - Venky Jois tallied his ninth double-double of
the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds as the Eastern Washington Eagles
defeated the Portland State Vikings, 76-65, in a Big Sky Conference bout at
Reese Court.
Jois also blocked three shots for EWU (5-15, 3-7 Big Sky), which snapped a
four-game losing streak. Parker Kelly scored 17 points on 5-of-8 from 3-point
range, while Martin Seiferth and Kevin Winford netted 13 and 12, respectively.
For Portland State (5-12, 3-7), Aaron Moore recorded 20 points and 10
rebounds, Michael Harthun had 14 points, and Gary Winton chipped in 12 points.
The Vikings are now losers of four in a row.
EWU shot just 37.5 percent from the field in the first half, but it made six
3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes and took a 33-25 advantage into the
break. Portland State went without a trey in the frame.
The Eagles' field goal efficiency improved to 57.1 percent after halftime, and
they held at least a seven point advantage throughout the second half.
EWU outscored Portland State in the paint, 34-20.
